Learning Guqin

The lessons I offer are primarily focused on teaching one how to play the guqin.  This includes fingering techniques, reading guqin musical notation (减字谱, Jianzipu), and playing the repertoire  of traditional songs I learned from my teacher.  These lessons also include practical basics, such as how to choose an instrument, tuning, etc.).

Playing the qin also requires a certain level of understanding of the culture and ideology that has surrounded this instrument and its music for thousands of years.  This, too, is addressed in the lessons.

Lessons are taught in English and require no prior understanding of Chinese written or spoken language.
